“age ain’t nuthin’ but a number”

I am currently here at beautiful Lake Junaluska, North Carolina. Part of the joy of being here is the natural beauty of the mountains. Part of the joy comes from it being 10–15 degrees cooler than in Raleigh. But, my biggest joy has come from being a part of the Wisdom and Grace Conference sponsored by the Souteastern Jurisdiction [...]

a ray of light for Haiti

In my last post I wrote about meeting Raymond Joseph, Haiti’s Ambassador to the United States. I have now been priviledged to be with him at five events during the past two days here in the Tampa-St. Petersburg area.
I’ve seen him at townhall meetings, media events, business meetings, invitation only luncheons and citywide memorial services. I’ve [...]

a certain something

Leaders come in all sizes and shapes. But regardless of their physical characteristics, all the leaders I have ever met have a certain something special that sets them apart. boots on the ground II

This is the second email from Lee Warren, the Virgina Director of Stop Hunger Now. She is currently in Cap Haitian, Haiti. Her first person account of the ongoing tragedy highlights the need SHN is trying to address.

Bonsoir everyone.

What I thought would be a rather relaxed day before the heavy work week at the [...]

“Inshallah”

“Inshallah.”

It’s a word I hear often here at the Parliament of World Religions. Inshallah, if God wills it, an Islamic way of acknowledging that God is supreme. Inshallah, we will, if God wills it. We acknowledge the same dependence on God in my own Christian tradition. I often add the phrase, “God willing,” when [...]

reflections from Melbourne

Taking part in  the Parliment of World Religions, here in Melbourne has been a powerful experience for me, just as it was when I attended the Parliment in Barcelona, Spain five years ago. Being immersed in interreligious dialogue and debate for six days gives me new appreciation, both for the wonderful spiritual diversity of our global [...]
